13 September. 6.30pm – 8pm at The Old Waterworks, North Road, SS0 7AB Elsa James’ Artist Research Workshop will take participants on a guided tour through James’ practice, using the new publication Drax of Drax Hall by Paul Lashmar as a springboard. The workshop will look at the vital role that interdisciplinary research holds in artist practice and invites participants to explore Afro Dadaism, a new strand in her artistic research. James uses Afro Dada to explore the intersections of Black British identity and the British Empire through experimental methods and materials. Reading Group and Workshops With Damien Robinson Saturday 02 August 2025. 11am – 2pm Saturday 16 August 2025. 11am – 2pm image by Anna Lukala Supported by Pluto Press An in person reading group and protest sign making series of workshops  starts at The Old Waterworks in Southend from 12 July 2025. In these sessions artist Damien Robinson will guide us through John Pring’s publication ‘The Department; How a Violent Government Bureaucracy Killed Hundreds and Hid the Evidence’. To counteract the heavy subject matter of the book, Damien will also be supporting us to make our own protest signs for the issues that effect us the most. Each session will focus on a chapter of The Department by John Pring as well as discussion
